The World’s Second Largest Continent

Africa can hold the continental USA, Europe, China, India, Argentina, and New Zealand… and have room for more!

The Size is 11.7 million square miles making up over 20% of the earths land mass and is home to the world’s longest river, The Nile. There are also over 2000 languages spoken on the continent.

It’s Countries

54 countries make up Africa and most of today’s African nations gained their independence from colonial rule in the 1960s. By the end of the 1970s, almost all of Africa was independent. 46 cities have over 1 million people – 7 cities have over 10 million

It’s Problems

Out of the 35 million people infected with AIDS and HIV 25 million of them live in sub-Sahara Africa. In 2020, 30 state-based conflicts were recorded. 15 conflicts were fought over territory, setting another record. Internationalized civil wars were also at an all-time high and Africa is home to the top 10 poorest countries on earth.

It’s Religions

As of 2020, 62 percent of the region’s population was Christian. Muslims followed, accounting for 31.4 percent of the total population. In addition, 3.2 percent of the people in Sub-Saharan Africa practiced traditional African religions, while the unaffiliated constituted three percent of the population.
