Gombe Stream National Park
The smallest of all the Tanzania national parks, it is a famous place because of Jane Goodall. Gombe National Park is 13 miles north of Kigoma on the shore of Lake Tanganyika. There is no road access so the only way to get there is by boat. When we have an operating boat, we provide transportation for our visitors. When we do not have a boat available, they can be chartered in Kigoma for about $400. For a day trip, leaving at dawn, it takes two or three hours to arrive. Park entrance fee for Americans is USD $100. You must hire a guide and it is a walking trek. With luck, you will see some of the most famous chimpanzees in the world. The environment is true African jungle, vines and all. And you will think you might meet Tarzan and Jane at any moment.
After hours of walking, in mid-afternoon you will board the boat for the trip back to Kigoma. It is possible to book an overnight stay as well.
Jane Goodall is busy with her advocacy work all over the world , but makes occasional trips back to Gombe.
